THEME.
"Because throughout it all, you are still, always you: beautiful and bruised, known and unknowable. And isn't that -- just you -- enough?" - Elise Dembowski
In this the story, the author had many themes that i could choose from, but i chose this theme. The reason why i chose this theme or quote is because it dealt with what the character was trying to accomplish in the story, but the author was so captivating that you almost forgot. Elise is a character who has dynamic characteristics. She undergoes many changes in the story and that is also noticeable. In this quote, "Because throughout it all, you are still, always you: beautiful and bruised, known and unknowable.", says, even though your not popular or the best person in school, you are still you. Elise is still beautiful and bruised, known and unknowable. This also shows that not everyone is going to notice you and some who are special will. The last sentence in the quote was, "And isn't that -- just you -- enough?". In the last sentence, the author is telling us that even though we are not known in school or the popular person in school, at least you are still you. What is there to be other than you, even if you hate yourself, try to change your fashion, or even go sit with the cool kids at the lunch table. Isn't that just what everyone is also trying to accomplish? Even though these people at school don't notice you, and you feel sad and lonely, but isn't that just you enough? At least you are still you who loves doing what "you" do most. "And isn't that -- just you -- enough?". After reading this quote, i imagined both Elise and the author saying the same lines, which made me realize how big the world is and that there is only one you, one who is unique and different from all the others, so why try to change? Isn't you enough?
